Gaylon G. Wilburn Obituary

Gaylon Gale Wilburn was born July 16, 1944, in Shelbyville, Texas.  He entered eternal rest on April 18, 2024, in Millry, Alabama.

Family visitation for Gaylon will be held Monday, April 22, 2024, at 10:00am at Kramer Funeral Home in Alexandria, followed by graveside service at Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Pineville with Brother Brandon Brown officiating.

As a boy and young man, he loved spending time with his grandparents, Willie, and Mae Sample, at their farm in Dreka, Texas. He developed a love for horses that remained with him forever. His idea of a good outing was going to a livestock auction. Yes, he was a good horse trader.

Gaylon worked 25 years for Lone Star Gas in Ferris, Texas as an inspector until his retirement in 2007.

Gaylon always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was consistently teasing or pulling a prank on someone and loved sharing his words of wisdom with the youngsters. He lived and found happiness in nature, simple chats and his favorite activity, mowing his small farm with his riding mower or tractor.

He had an extended family at Javier’s Restaurant in Ferris, Texas. After his retirement, he ate most of his meals there. He was a regular and he loved the attention every waitress bestowed upon him. Familiar friends that shared his interests made this site a favorite meeting place to discuss anything from weather to politics. They solved lots of world problems, unbeknownst to the rest of us.

He was preceded in death by Linda Wilburn, his wife, and the loving mother of their two children.  Also, by his parents, Alvis Ray Wilburn and Mildred Sample Wilburn Green.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Deanna Sampey (Whitney) of Millry, Alabama, his son Kevin Wilburn of Ferris, Texas, one grandson Trey Allen of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Glenda Stock Smith (Henry) of Alexandria, Louisiana, Ronda Bonenfant (Guy) of Berwick, Louisiana, one brother, Terry Willburn (Carita) of Berwick, Louisiana, nephew; Brandon Brown (Patricia) of Berwick, Louisiana, niece, Monica Hopp (Charlie) of Morgan City, Louisiana, and nephew Samuel Wilburn (Jayne) of Berwick, Louisiana, four great nieces, Ava, Bella, Gabby, and Layne and four great nephews Blayne, Connor, Cade and Ethan.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Sample, Henry Smith, Guy Bonenfant, Whitney Sampey, Trey Allen, Samuel Wilburn, Blayne Brown and Cade Brown.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
